We lay new tarmac driveways in Teddington, resurface tired drives and carry out tarmac driveway repair work, with the sub-base, falls and edging done properly so the surface lasts.
Between Bushy Park and the river at Teddington Lock, Teddington's Victorian and Edwardian streets give it a village feel that homeowners rightly want to protect. Our team lays tarmac driveways in Teddington across TW11, from period villas near Broad Street and the High Street to family homes towards Fulwell and Hampton Wick. We handle new asphalt drives, resurfacing and tarmac driveway repair, using borders and colours that sit comfortably with the area's architecture and its tree-lined roads.
Teddington sits on Thames gravels over London clay, which drains reasonably but varies close to the river. We lay a compacted Type 1 sub-base and hot-rolled asphalt, often in red or buff with brick or block-paved edging, and use porous asphalt or channel drains to manage run-off. We are FMB, TrustMark and Guild of Master Craftsmen members, fully insured, and all work is guaranteed.
Most of our driveway work comes from recommendations. Here is what customers say about us.

Red or green tarmac for drives, paths and private roads where you want something different from black.
Channel drains, soakaways and porous asphalt to keep water off the road and within the planning rules.

Conservation-sensitive details such as coloured tarmac, brick borders, retained planting and porous construction add to the specification. Small defects in tarmac grow quickly once water gets in. These are the signs it is time to call us.
Hairline cracks let water into the base, where frost widens them every winter.
Loose, missing patches that will keep growing and can damage tyres and trip visitors.
Low areas and ruts point to a weak or washed-out sub-base under the surface.
Puddles that sit for hours mean the falls or drainage need correcting.
Growth along edges and cracks shows the surface is opening up and losing its seal.
Oxidised, crumbly tarmac that sheds grit is near the end of its life and may need resurfacing.

Book a free surveyTeddington has several conservation areas, including the High Street and Teddington Lock, and the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames pays close attention to front gardens, boundary walls and trees. The council generally discourages losing whole front gardens to hard standing, so designs that keep planting and walls have a better chance. Many Victorian terraces have shallow frontages where a car may not fit, which affects dropped kerb approval. Front gardens over 5 m² need permeable asphalt or drainage to a soft area. Homes near the river can see higher groundwater, and parking pressure near the station and High Street makes new crossovers harder to secure.
We also cover these nearby areas with the same team and the same guarantees.
From survey to the final roll, this is how we build a tarmac drive that lasts.
We check the existing surface, levels, drainage and access, and talk through borders and layout.
An itemised quote with dig-out, sub-base, tarmac courses, edging and a start date.
The old surface comes out, and kerbs or block borders are set to the finished levels.
Crushed stone sub-base is laid and compacted, with channel drains or soakaways where needed.
Hot tarmac is laid in two courses and rolled while hot for a dense, smooth finish.
Edges are sealed, the site is cleared, and we tell you when you can drive on it.

Straight answers to the questions Teddington customers ask us most. If yours is not here, call us.
Standard tarmac is impermeable, so a new front driveway over 5 square metres needs planning permission unless rainwater drains to a lawn, border or soakaway on your property, or you use porous asphalt. We design drainage to keep you within the rules.
It is not automatic. Richmond upon Thames Council looks at frontage depth, the loss of on-street parking, street trees and the impact on the street scene, especially in conservation areas. Approval is more likely where a car fits fully within the boundary and the design keeps some planting and a boundary feature. We measure during our free survey and can prepare a layout that gives your application the best chance.
If the existing surface is sound and well supported, an overlay is a cost-effective option. If it is sinking, cracked through or badly drained, we recommend a full dig-out and a new sub-base.
A well-built tarmac drive on a proper sub-base should last many years. Keeping edges sealed and repairing cracks early makes a big difference.
You can usually walk on it the same day and drive on it after a day or so. Avoid sharp turns on the spot and parking in the same position for the first few weeks.
Tarmac is usually quicker to lay and better value per square metre, with a smooth, seamless finish. Block paving costs more but offers more patterns and colours. Many customers combine the two with a tarmac drive and block-paved borders.
Yes. We cut out failed areas, prepare the base and reinstate with fresh tarmac, sealing the joints so water cannot get back in.
