We lay new tarmac driveways in Ealing, resurface tired drives and carry out tarmac driveway repair work, with the sub-base, falls and edging done properly so the surface lasts.
Ealing's Edwardian streets, from the Brentham Garden Suburb to the avenues around Pitshanger Lane and Ealing Common, demand a driveway that looks right as well as wearing well. We lay tarmac driveways in Ealing across W5 and W13, including West Ealing, Northfields and Hanger Hill. Our team handles new asphalt drives, resurfacing over sound existing tarmac and tarmac driveway repair where tree roots or utility trenches have broken the surface.
On Ealing's heavy London clay, we excavate to a firm formation, lay a compacted Type 1 sub-base and finish with hot-laid binder and surface courses. Red or buff coloured tarmac with brick or block-paved borders suits Victorian and Edwardian frontages, and channel drains handle the run-off where clay will not absorb it. We are FMB and TrustMark members, fully insured, and every driveway is guaranteed.
Most of our driveway work comes from recommendations. Here is what customers say about us.

Call 020 8226 5062In Ealing the main cost drivers are the size of the frontage, how much old crazy paving, concrete or tiled path must come out, and how deep we dig on London clay. Conservation-friendly details such as brick borders, coloured tarmac and retained walls add work, as does permeable construction or a channel drain to a soakaway. Access and parking restrictions on controlled streets also play a part. Every quote is fixed and written after a free survey. Call us on 020 8226 5062 to arrange yours.

Small defects in tarmac grow quickly once water gets in. These are the signs it is time to call us.
Hairline cracks let water into the base, where frost widens them every winter.
Loose, missing patches that will keep growing and can damage tyres and trip visitors.
Low areas and ruts point to a weak or washed-out sub-base under the surface.
Puddles that sit for hours mean the falls or drainage need correcting.
Growth along edges and cracks shows the surface is opening up and losing its seal.
Oxidised, crumbly tarmac that sheds grit is near the end of its life and may need resurfacing.

Book a free surveyEaling has more than two dozen conservation areas, including Brentham Garden Suburb, Mount Park and Ealing Cricket Grounds, and some carry Article 4 directions that remove permitted development rights for front gardens, walls and hardstandings. Before work starts we check what Ealing Council allows on your street. London clay shrinks in dry summers and swells in winter, which cracks thin tarmac and lifts edges near mature street trees, so a good sub-base and flexible edging matter. Front gardens over 5 m² need permeable surfacing or drainage to a lawn or border. Many streets are in controlled parking zones, so new crossovers are assessed against the loss of on-street bays and street trees.
We also cover these nearby areas with the same team and the same guarantees.
From survey to the final roll, this is how we build a tarmac drive that lasts.
We check the existing surface, levels, drainage and access, and talk through borders and layout.
An itemised quote with dig-out, sub-base, tarmac courses, edging and a start date.
The old surface comes out, and kerbs or block borders are set to the finished levels.
Crushed stone sub-base is laid and compacted, with channel drains or soakaways where needed.
Hot tarmac is laid in two courses and rolled while hot for a dense, smooth finish.
Edges are sealed, the site is cleared, and we tell you when you can drive on it.

Straight answers to the questions Ealing customers ask us most. If yours is not here, call us.
Standard tarmac is impermeable, so a new front driveway over 5 square metres needs planning permission unless rainwater drains to a lawn, border or soakaway on your property, or you use porous asphalt. We design drainage to keep you within the rules.
Possibly, but check first. Some Ealing conservation areas, such as Brentham Garden Suburb, have Article 4 directions that require planning permission for hard surfacing or removing front boundary walls. Even without one, Ealing Council expects designs that keep the street's character, so retaining low walls, using coloured tarmac and adding planting usually helps. Any front garden over 5 m² also needs permeable surfacing or drainage to a soft area. We can advise before you apply.
If the existing surface is sound and well supported, an overlay is a cost-effective option. If it is sinking, cracked through or badly drained, we recommend a full dig-out and a new sub-base.
A well-built tarmac drive on a proper sub-base should last many years. Keeping edges sealed and repairing cracks early makes a big difference.
You can usually walk on it the same day and drive on it after a day or so. Avoid sharp turns on the spot and parking in the same position for the first few weeks.
Tarmac is usually quicker to lay and better value per square metre, with a smooth, seamless finish. Block paving costs more but offers more patterns and colours. Many customers combine the two with a tarmac drive and block-paved borders.
Yes. We cut out failed areas, prepare the base and reinstate with fresh tarmac, sealing the joints so water cannot get back in.
